Professor Karathanos from Harokopion University visiting SPT
On May 9th, Prof. Vaios T. Karathanos from Harokopion University of Athens visited School of Perfume and Aroma Technology.
With the company of Zhang Yunbin, Executive President of SPT, and Yu Ling, Vice president of SPT, Professor Karathanos visited the research center and Food Science and Engineering Laboratory of our school. After visiting, Professor Karathanos gave an interesting report about the recent developments of food engineering and food nutrition, and had a discussion with teachers and graduate students.
Professor Karathanos obtained Ph.D (1990) from the Department of Food Science of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, USA. Since 2004, he has worked at the Department of Nutrition, Harokopion University of Athens, as a full Professor of Food Engineering and Physical Chemistry. His research interests include mass transfer in food systems, physical properties of foods, extrusion cooking, food dehydration by air and freeze drying, encapsulation of bioactive compounds, nutritional evaluation and clinical studies of certain fruits. He has published 63 research papers in the area of Food Engineering, Food Physical Chemistry and Nutrition with more than 1800 citations.
Professor Karathanos had a deep impression on our advanced technology platform and our contributions to the development of Food Engineering. He expressed the intention to have further cooperation with our school to promote the development of Food Engineering and nutrition research.
